4. PRODUCT CONFORMANCE PROVISIONS
4.1 Product conformance. The products provided shall meet the salient characteristics of this CID, conform to the producer's own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices, and be the same product offered for sale in the commercial marketplace. The government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance.
4.2 Market acceptability. The product offered must have been previously sold either to the government or on the commercial market.
4.3 Metric product. Products manufactured using metric units will be considered on an equal basis with those manufactured using inch-pound units, provided that the product measurements fall within specified tolerances using conversion tables contained in the latest revision of
FED-STD-376, "Preferred Metric Units for General Use by the Federal Government", and that all other requirements of this CID are met.
5. PACKAGING
5.1 Preservation, packing, and marking. Unless otherwise specified (see 5.2, 5.3, 5.4, and 5.5), preservation, packing, and marking shall be as specified in the acquisition order (see 6.2(b)).
5.2 Filter pouch. Each filter pouch shall be heat-sealed in a snug-fitting polyethylene bag. The polyethylene film shall be 0.001 (minimum) inch thick.
5.3 Complete kit. Each complete kit consisting of one water treatment bag, 30 sachets contained in one intermediate package as described in A-A-52119, and three filter pouches (unit packed as specified in 5.2) shall be compactly arranged in a clear polyethylene film bag. The polyethylene film shall be 0.003 inch thick and the bag shall be closed by heat sealing. Care shall be taken to avoid excess air being entrapped in the bag during the sealing operation.
5.4 Intermediate packaging. Fifty kits, unit packed as specified in 5.3, shall be packed in an intermediate fiberboard box conforming to the style of a regular slotted box (RSC) of
ASTM D1974/D1974M, "Standard Practice for Methods of Closing, Sealing, and Reinforcing Fiberboard Boxes". The kits shall be arranged on edge in two layers with 25 kits per layer. The layers shall be separated by a full length and width fiberboard pad. Approximate inside dimensions of the intermediate box shall be 21-7/8 inches in length, 7-3/8 inches in width, and 6-
5/8 inches in depth. Each intermediate box shall be securely closed.
5.5 Packing. One hundred kits (two intermediate boxes) shall be packed in a snug-fitting fiberboard shipping container conforming to style RSC of ASTM D1974/D1974M. Each shipping container shall be closed and waterproofed in accordance with ASTM D1974/D1974M. Approximate inside dimensions of the shipping container shall be 22-1/4 inches in length, 15-
7/8 inches in width, and 7-3/8 inches in depth. Each shipping container shall be closed and waterproofed in accordance with ASTM D1974/D1974M.
