CLEANING COMPOUND, SOLVENT-DETERGENT

(FOR AIR-CONDITIONING COILS AND FILTERS)

The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description in preference to Federal Specification P-C-446.

This commercial item description covers one type of cleaning compound intended for use on aluminum heat exchanging coils on air conditioning systems.

Salient characteristics:

The cleaning compound, diluted 4 to 1 with water, will have no adverse effect (pitting, etching, or discoloration) on coupons of heavy duty aluminum foil when those coupons are allowed to stand in a beaker containing the diluted cleaning compound for 2 hours.

The diluted cleaning compound will remove a standard soil from the coupons after an immersion of 5 minutes and rinsing with tap water.

The standard soil shall consist of a metal-cross linked floor finish, such as the standard sample for P-F-430, Type I, which has been colored with a dye such as methylene blue. The test coupon shall be dipped once in the dyed floor finish and allowed to dry overnight in a vertical position.

After immersion and rinsing, examine the coupon visually for complete removal of the soil that was in contact with the cleaning compound.

Regulatory requirements. The manufacturer shall utilize recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable.

Packaging, packing, and marking. The packaging, packing, and marking shall be as specified in the contract or order.

Notes: The contracting officer should specify the size of the container desired.

The cleaning compound is intended for use on operating systems, where it is sprayed on and subsequently either rinsed of f by hosing or condensation.
